SEO for Pool Companies: How One Route Went From 40 Pools to 200+

The Final Code

If you clean pools for a living, the pool is the easy part. Skim, brush, balance, replace the pump some genius ran dry. The hard part is getting the next customer to call you instead of the truck down the street. As an SEO company in Ventura County, we have watched one pool company figure that out from the inside, so none of this is theory.

His name is Dillon Brooks, and he runs Primary Pool Services. In May 2024 he had about 40 pools on his route. By August 2026 he had over 200. Everything below is what we did together, and every number comes from his case study.

Your customers search for the job, never for a pool guy

Nobody wakes up and types “pool company.” They type the problem in front of them. And the problem decides what kind of customer they are about to become.

The route customerweekly pool service near me
pool cleaning service cost
Pays you every month. This is the search that builds a route.
The rescuegreen pool water fix
pool pump near me
Something broke or turned swamp green, and they want it handled this week. Rescue it well and you have earned the right to ask for the monthly service.
The projectacid wash pool cost
pool tile cleaning service
A one-time job with a real ticket. Plaster, tile, a salt system.

Real searches, taken from the suggestions Google offers as you start typing.

Three kinds of customer, three different searches, and one page cannot answer all of them. A homepage that says “we do it all” is a reply to nobody in particular.

Google says as much in its own beginner’s guide to search.

Users who know a lot about the topic might use different keywords in their search queries than someone who is new to the topic. Google Search Central, SEO Starter Guide

Pool owners prove it every day. The couple who bought the house in March types “pool guys near me.” The man who has owned a pool since flip phones types “salt cell replacement.” You want both of them, and they are not using the same words.

Dillon turned up for two searches, and both were his own name

Route sheet, Primary Pool Services

May 2024

  • 40pools on the route, about
  • 2searches he turned up for, both his business name
  • 12visits a month from Google

August 2026

  • 200+pools on the route
  • 25%+revenue growth in year one, 2024
  • 7figures in revenue, up from five, with a crew and a fleet of vans

From our Primary Pools case study. Pool, fleet and revenue figures are reported by the client.

The painful part is that Dillon was already good. He knew the work, he ran a tight operation, and his customers loved him. None of that reached a stranger in Camarillo with a green pool. Google only knew him as “Primary Pool Services,” and that stranger had never heard the name.

Your name is the search you have already won. Everybody who types it knows you. SEO is for the people who do not, and if your business is stuck there too, we wrote up why you only rank for your own name and how to get past it.

Every service in every town is its own search

Dillon’s crew covers ten towns across Ventura County and the west end of LA County.

  1. Thousand Oaks
  2. Simi Valley
  3. Camarillo
  4. Moorpark
  5. Westlake Village
  6. Oxnard
  7. Agoura Hills
  8. Ventura
  9. Newbury Park
  10. Malibu
  • Seven services:
  • Monthly cleaning
  • Equipment repairs
  • Acid washing
  • Salt systems
  • Filter service
  • Green pool recovery
  • Tile and waterline

Every service paired with every town is a separate thing somebody types. “Acid washing in Camarillo” and “filter service in Simi Valley” are different people with different problems. So we built pages for the work, town by town, and made sure the page each person landed on was about exactly what they typed.

One warning before you clone your homepage forty times. A town page only counts if it says something true about that town. Copies with the city name swapped do nothing for you, and we covered how many pages you actually need and where that line sits.

Pick your towns the way you pick your route

A new customer two streets from a stop you already have costs you almost no extra drive time. A new customer across the county costs you windshield time every week, for as long as they stay. Build your strongest pages for the towns your trucks already drive through, and fill the route before you stretch it.

Pool cleaning is dull to read about, so we let a turtle say it

Let us be honest. Nobody reads a thousand words about filter cartridges for fun. People watch. So in year two we brought Turtle Tim to life, a cartoon turtle in a Primary Pools cap and a tool belt.

Tim fronts the videos, the seasonal posts and the side of every van. Dillon and the crew do the work, and Tim does the talking. Every video lives on YouTube, gets cut for Facebook and Instagram, and goes on the website too. One shoot, a lot of places to be found.

162.5%

more phone calls from Google Ads, in the one month the Turtle Tim campaign and Performance Max ran, against the month before.

A third

of the old cost per call, that same month, on comparable spend.

From our Primary Pools case study.

That is an ads result, not an SEO result, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What it shows is how much a character people remember can carry. The same turtle is on the pages, the posts and the vans. The whole story, with Dillon on camera, is in the Primary Pools case study.

Where we would start if you ran a pool company

  1. Find out what you turn up for todayFrom your customers' streets, not your office. Searching from your desk tells you very little about Oxnard.
  2. Fix the website if it is a templateDillon's was. Make it fast, clear and built for a phone, because a homeowner standing next to a green pool is holding one.
  3. Build a page for the work you want more ofUsually that is the monthly service, because a route stop pays you every month. Then the rescues and the projects.
  4. Add the towns your trucks already visitEach one with something real to say about that town, never a copy with the name swapped.
  5. Get on camera, or get a turtleA face or a character people remember does more work than one more paragraph.

That is roughly the order Dillon went in. His first year grew revenue more than 25%, and that is what gave him the appetite for year two.

Your route can only grow as big as the number of people who can find you. Turning up for the jobs, in the towns, in front of people who have never heard your name: that is what SEO is for.
